We thought we’d do 10 random questions so our readers could get to know us better! Like all of our questions in our series we answer everything separately and don’t read each others answers till we’re all done writing – keeps it more fun that way.
10 Questions – Here we go!
1. Favorite movie + show:
Em: I consider myself a huge movie buff and a lover of good TV so I could list ones I love all day, but I would have to say my all time favorite movie is Jerry Maguire, followed by Shawshank Redemption, and basically anything made by Pixar. Honorable mention to You’ve Got Mail as my favorite romantic comedy. As far as television goes, Arrested Development will always reign in at number one for me.
Kate: Favorite comfort show is hands down friends. I think I can basically quote every episode by heart now. It still makes me laugh and I still find myself hoping that Ross andRachel don’t go “on a break”. I probably could’ve mastered 3 languages in all the time I’ve spent watching this show but when I can’t sleep or I’m not feeling great nothing is quite as comforting.
It’s almost impossible for me to pick a favorite movie but I’m a sucker for 90’s romantic comedies. There’s nothing quite or more comforting (I guess there’s a theme here) or better than ‘You’ve got mail’, ‘notting Hill” or “One Fine Day”. They always make me long for autumn and make me want to curl up with a cup of tea and a warm blanket.
2. Tell us about your pet!
Em: As questions go this is one I could talk about all day. My dog (love of my life) is Rylie, who is 11 years old, and a chihuahua/dachshund mix. My dad brought her back from Mexico when she was only days old and under 1lb! Definitely too young to be away from her mom, but she was all alone and he managed to bring her back to America. She was so tiny, we had to feed her sugar paste the first few weeks until her teeth came in. Now she’s the ultimate snuggle companion, lover of blankets, and a very picky eater.
Kate: My pet (aka my best friend) is my 8 1/2 month old puppy Oban. He’s a Basset/Beagle Mix who was a rescue from Georgia. He’s a pile of mush and makes the best snuggle buddy which comes in quite handy when you have autoimmune problems & need to lay down a lot of the time. He LOVES to sleep under the blankets right against my shoulder with his head on my pillow (he’s spoiled). I have him registered as an ESA (emotional support) animal so I can take him with me when I travel which is a huge help for me & comes in quite handy. He’s amazingly calm for a puppy and has the sweetest temperament…I’m a little obsessed with him if that’s not beyond obvious.
(before we did these questions – we unknowingly bought the same blanket!)
3. What’s your ‘vice’?
Em: Dark chocolate. And The Bachelor/Bachelorette, it just sucks you in!
Kate: Junky food and cheat meals that aren’t low histamine! I have ZERO will power when it comes to pizza & sweets.
4. My go to beauty product is…
Em: A good under-eye concealer. My current favorite is Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Creme. It’s thick but doesn’t crease and lasts the whole day. I went into a Sephora a few months ago actually looking for a different concealer to buy and the salesperson I spoke with insisted I had to try the Kat Von D one instead. Very glad she did, it has quickly turned into one of my favorite beauty products.
Kate: I always feel naked without mascara on. My favorite brand I’m currently using is Boots number 7 Lash Impact mascara that I buy from Target. It comes in a sparkly red tube & I use Black (not waterproof). I wear contacts & find that a lot of mascaras irritate my eyes when they start flaking off & you get those little black flecks in your eyes. I never have that issue with this brand & it doesn’t make me look like a raccoon by the end of the day – double plus.
5. A silver lining to these health problems has been?
Em: Being in this health situation forced to be very diligent about what I put in my body and because I this, I developed a real interest in nutrition and love of healthy foods. In the early years of my diagnosis, I worked with a wonderful nutritionist who taught me so much and made me feel very empowered through self care. Although so much felt out of my hands, I still had the control to effect my body with what I put in it on a day-to-day basis.
Kate: As cheesy as it may sound, dealing with health problems since a young age has definitely given me a greater appreciation of life. I don’t take for granted the days that I fee somewhat “normal” & I’m able to get out of bed, go out to a store or go on a walk. There was a time that sitting in a wheel chair at the mall was too painful & exhausting for me. It has made me so appreciative of the love & support I get from my family, as I know that that’s not the case for many, and I feel lucky that I have access to amazing doctors and medicine that are helping me live the best life I can.
6. Morning bird or night owl?
Em: Night owl for sure. I often get adrenaline spikes at night and will be up really late and wired as a result, so staying up till the early hours of the morning is all too common. I’m trying to be better about screen time late at night, because I’m sure that doesn’t help…
Kate: This is my inner battle in life. I would love to be a morning bird but I have a hard time sleeping most nights that my mornings are never as graceful as I would like. It takes me a long time once I get up in the morning to come to & I never feel super great when I wake up. Since I don’t have my meds in me yet or enough liquid (I try to get 32 oz in as soon as I’m up) it still takes me about 30-45 minutes from when I wake up to get situated for the day.
7. One thing you wouldn’t know from looking at a picture of me is…
Em: I’m 6 feet tall! And can do the splits (thanks Ehlers -Danlos Syndrome).
Kate: Oh great questions – I love to paint and all things art for that matter. I minored in Fine Art at college with a focus in Oil painting.
8. Last time you cried?
Em: This past weekend watching the new Pixar movie Coco in theaters. Crying is putting it lightly, I was sobbing.
Kate: I saw Pixar’s COCO this afternoon & easily lost all of my water intake for the day from sobbing my eyes out. I cry very easily at anything slightly emotional (Em too for that matter) so I knew going into this movie there would be a fair chance that this was going to get me. The movie was absolutely amazing but gezzz Pixar sure does know how to tug at those emotional stings.
Bring tissues!
9. What’s one thing you admire about the other person?
Em: I am so indecisive (see my answer to question #1 as a perfect example). Something I’m always envious of with Kate is her ability to make a decision and then just get behind it one hundred perfect. She doesn’t do this ‘what if/back and forth’ thing I end up doing. When I’m stuck trying to decide on something, she is always in the back my head saying, ‘go with your gut and don’t look back!’.
Kate: Ugh where do I begin. One thing I’ve always admired about Em is how people respond and are drawn to her. She has such a warm and charismatic quality to her that makes everyone always love her and want to be her best friend. I always joke around with Em that she is the more likable sister, but she truly is.
10. My hot drink of choice is…
Em: Jasmine green tea all the way!
Kate: Raspberry Zinger Herbal Tea. I absolutely love this stuff. I don’t drink caffeine anymore (I can’t tolerate it) but I still love me a hot cup of tea in the morning. It’s the first thing I have in the morning & usually the last thing I have at night.
